“Can you get us showing up in ChatGPT?” If you run an agency, you’ve probably heard some version of that question this year. Maybe from a client. Maybe from a prospect who’s already talking to someone else about it.
In our earlier guide on what AI search means for SEO, we covered why it matters and how AI answers pick their sources. This one is practical: how to package AI search visibility (often called GEO, generative engine optimisation) into a monthly service you can sell, deliver and report on.
In this article
The demand is real
A Conductor survey of enterprise leaders found that 94% plan to increase their investment in AI search optimisation in 2026, after putting an average of 12% of digital marketing budgets into it in 2025. And BrightEdge’s survey of 750 marketers found 68% of organisations are changing their strategy for AI search, with 54% relying on their SEO and digital marketing teams to lead the work.
Those are mostly bigger companies. Smaller businesses ask the same question, they just don’t have an SEO team to answer it. That’s the gap your agency can fill. And there’s a real reason to act: Pew Research found people click a regular search result in 8% of visits when an AI summary appears, compared with 15% without one.
Be honest about the evidence. Much of the GEO data comes from vendors who sell GEO tools, and most of it covers large companies. The trend is clear. The exact numbers for small businesses are still unproven, so sell it as a smart addition to SEO, not a miracle.
What a GEO service actually includes
Make sure Googlebot and OAI-SearchBot can reach the site, pages are indexed, and nothing important is hidden from snippets.
Rewrite key pages so each one opens with a clear, direct answer to a real customer question.
Add statistics, sources and expert quotes. Research behind GEO found these can raise visibility in AI answers by up to 40%.
Schema markup that matches what’s visible on the page: FAQs, products, services, local business details.
Name, address, services and prices that match across the site, Google Business Profile and directories.
A monthly check of whether the business is cited for its key questions, plus AI referral traffic.
The monthly cycle
01
Track key questions
Agree 15 to 25 questions customers actually ask. Each month, check which AI tools mention the client in their answers.
02
Find the gaps
Look at which sources do get cited for each question, and what they have that the client doesn’t.
03
Improve and publish
Update existing pages and add new ones: direct answers, real numbers, quotes and matching schema.
04
Report and plan
Share citations won, AI referral traffic and organic results, then pick next month’s priorities.
Three starter packages
| Starter | Growth | Authority | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Best for | Local businesses | Growing service firms | Competitive markets |
| Key questions tracked | 10 | 25 | 50 |
| Pages improved each month | 2 | 4 | 8 |
| New content each month | 1 answer page | 2 pages | 4 pages and a data piece |
| Schema and local consistency | Setup | Monthly checks | Monthly checks |
| Report | Monthly summary | Monthly report | Monthly report and quarterly review |
An example structure. Price it on top of, or bundled with, your existing SEO retainer, based on your market and delivery costs.
The easiest sell is usually a bundle: existing SEO clients upgrade to “SEO plus AI search”, because the work overlaps heavily. Google itself says SEO best practices still apply to its AI features. GEO builds on SEO rather than replacing it.

How to report it
Out of the key questions, how many AI answers mention the client this month vs last.
Visits from ChatGPT, Perplexity, Copilot and Gemini in analytics.
Google says AI Overview traffic is counted in Search Console’s “Web” search type, so keep reporting it.
The business outcome. Connect AI visibility to enquiries wherever you can.
Lead with the business result, as we explain in How to Prove Your Agency’s Value Every Month. Citation share is a great progress signal, but leads and sales are what clients renew for.
What to promise, and what not to
Never promise
Promise this
AI answers change constantly. Sell the process and the reporting, not a guaranteed position.
Deliver it under your brand
GEO needs a mix of skills: technical SEO, content writing, schema and careful tracking. Few small agencies have all of them in-house. Our white-label AI SEO and GEO service covers the full monthly cycle, with content writing and white-label reports you can send as your own.

The bottom line
AI search isn’t a fad your clients will forget about. They’re already asking, and businesses with bigger budgets are already investing. Package it as an honest, measurable upgrade to SEO, report it every month, and you’ve added a service that keeps clients for years.
